French Prime Minister: France will not ban minarets
France will not follow Switzerland’s lead andban the construction of minarets as long as the towers blend in with the surroundings, Prime Minister Francois Fillon said Friday.
Construction on the new mosque in Marseille, one of France’s biggest, will begin in April and building plans provide for a tall 25-metre (82 feet) minaret.
A BVA poll released this week showed that 55 percent of the French opposed a ban on minarets and 54 percent said no referendum should be held on theissue. »»» The Tocqueville Connection
